A flexible production system needs a flexible automation system
If the flexibility in the production process is expected by our customer customers, it is fair that the customer can expect flexibiliy from our system as well. In order to explain why OMCloud is flexible, it is still good to have a look into flexibility in a manufacturing process in more detail.
Characteristics of flexibility are small production series - up to and including a serial size of 1 - or produce unknown products, of which is known that it is possible, but which have never been produced before.
Examples include tailor made kitchens, designer medicaments or on demand printed objects. These examples all have one common characteristic: The customer provides a data model to the manufacturer in order to make the desired product. In kitchens these concern the dimensions, the layout of the kitchen and the required materials. For pharmaceuticals, for example, this can be the DNA data of the patient. With a printed object the model contains the shape, color and materials to be used.
Why MESBuilder is flexible
Flexiblity in an MESBuilder system is achieved in the same way as you archieve flexibility in production. For us a smart industry project is doing a serie with size 1. Therefore - in co-operation with the customer - a model of the production process is prepared. With this model we "print" the customer tailored MES package, which then can be configured - as any other package - into a working system. The last finesses can be adjusted programmatically in a relatively simple manner. The model contains the types of information packets (object classes or entities) that are important in the management of operations and production means and the relationships between them. It includes the systems, machines or people who share these information packets and contains the procedures (business logic) for the processing of this information.
Starting with an empty model, there are only four basic entities -Tell building blocks- from which a complete business model can be made. One can also start with a standard model for one branche or with ISA95 and then omit add or change the entities. The proces of modeling is to explain within a half hour to a person without IT experience. Of course, when it comes to communication with the outside world through certain standards, such B2MML, then for those standards compelling entities are automatically added .
If the the business model changes in the sense that, for example new types of machines are involved, the packet can be regenerated. The custom modifications made before are retained.
